![]() ![]() The fact that it still has a relatively large and quite dedicated base of competitive players speaks to the fact that it is a multiplayer experience like no other. Other major RTS games like Age of Empires are similar in terms of mechanics, and are very good multiplayer games, but they're not quite as fast or intense as a match of StarCraft II. Unlike a hand of poker however, there's basically no random chance although people love to balance whine, it's actually very balanced and if you lose you were almost certainly outplayed, even though sometimes it can be difficult to identify exactly how.Ĭriticisms of RTS games being essentially massive games of Rock Paper Scissors might hold true for other games in the genre but not for StarCraft II the game is nuanced enough that a player can beat rock with scissors by outplaying them or identifying rock in time to play paper instead. A 1v1 game, the most authentic way to play, feels like a cross between a chess match, hand of poker, and a round of boxing that demands the mental game of a golfer. You need to build up your speed, precision, and mental endurance to be decent, and probably spend hours watching tutorials and practicing builds. All in all, if you even sort of enjoyed BW you will love SC2. I think it'd be great if people could make clans to make it easier to connect with other skilled people for team matches, such as 3v3s and 4v4s. My only complaint is the lack of clan support which the original enjoyed. Gone are the days where you play against people significantly below or beyond you in terms of skill. The campaign, im sure is fun if youre into that sort of thing, I myself went straight for the multiplayer, which is excellent with the brand new ladder system. As a die hard fan of SC:BW I went into this game with very high expectations and I can tell you that it lived up to every bit of it. The new units add a lot of new strategies as do new mechanics such as destructible rocks, xel'naga watch towers and the addition of a second gas node at every base.
